Case Studies : Real Impact
Explore how Maano Capital is helping organisations unlock sustainable infrastructure through smart financing, technical partnerships, and innovative solutions. Our case studies showcase the real-world impact of our work — from reducing grid dependence to catalytic PPP projects to boosting service delivery resilience — one project at a time.
Solar PV for WWTW in the Free State

Building Municipal Resilience Through Clean Energy
Maano Capital is proud to contribute to the development of innovative clean energy solutions for municipalities. In this project, we are driving the structuring and packaging of a solar PV initiative outside Welkom in the Free State aimed at reducing reliance on the national electricity grid. Installing Solar PV will cut long-term energy costs thereby improving service delivery resilience for wastewater treatment works.
Our role includes appointing expert technical partners, securing funding for both feasibility and implementation phases, and delivering comprehensive financial and economic analysis.
By championing this initiative, we are not only enabling municipalities to transition toward renewable energy but also contributing to a more sustainable and resilient future.
Mixed-use Precinct in Soweto
Catalytic PPP Development for Growth
Maano Capital is leading the entire finance workstream for the transformative City of Joburg sponsored Soweto Gateway development — a flagship mixed-use precinct catalyzing inclusive urban growth in one of South Africa’s most iconic townships.
Our role spans financial modelling, capital structuring, and end-to-end fundraising across multiple investment vehicles. We are driving the mobilisation of both private and public capital to unlock over R4.8 billion in infrastructure, housing, retail, education, healthcare, and industrial development — all strategically designed to uplift local communities while delivering bankable, risk-adjusted returns for investors.

Water Quality Laboratory

Maano Capital is supporting Thabo Mofutsanyana District Municipality in the Free State to unlock funding and build long-term capacity for water service delivery across the district. Our work focuses on designing a strategic pathway for the municipality to become an implementing agent (IA) for major water projects, with technical support from Umngeni Water Services through a public-public partnership originated by Maano Capital. This includes positioning the Kestell Water Quality Laboratory as a SANAS-accredited technical anchor and developing a pipeline of regional schemes eligible for national DWS grants and donor funding.
Strengthening Water Infrastructure
Smart Meters Program
Enabling Financial Resilience Through Smart Metering
Maano Capital is supporting municipalities to adopt smart water and electricity metering as a strategic tool for improving revenue collection, reducing losses, and promoting long-term financial sustainability.
Smart meters enable real-time consumption monitoring, early leak detection, and accurate billing — all of which help municipalities improve cash flow, reduce non-revenue losses, and build trust with consumers through transparent usage data.
In an environment where municipal finances are under pressure, smart metering helps shift cities toward data-driven service delivery, operational efficiency, and proactive maintenance. We are currently supporting Makhado municipality in Limpopo on this initiative.
